Hama who Hamala what?

Hamalatisha?

My sweet tooth was giving me the blues. I headed to the local Mediterranean bakery for a much needed treat.  Familiar with the baklava, tiramisu, and chocolate covered every things I wanted something homier.   I opted for a pastry called hamaistish or hamalitisha.  Please forgive me for massacring the name; and if anyone knows the proper spelling feel free to correct me.
After perving these triangle fruit filled treats I settled on the apricot filing (they also come in poppy seed and strawberry).  I asked for the name three times and tried to the read the baker’s lips.  After he side-eyed me a few and shoved my pastries toward me, I knew I needed to get my purchase and get the hell out.

They were pretty good. Nothing fancy with a whole lot of fan fare. Just a buttery light pastry filled with apricot filling with a hint of lemon.  Just your standard Mediterranean pasty.  They aren’t on the top of my list of must have delights, but they aren’t on the bottom either.

Taste of Eritrea: Cafe Aurora

Today in Alexandria the weather is spring like.  60 degrees and I’m in heaven and feeling a bit feisty.  I want something good to eat that’s hearty.  Out the door I go to find my latest food kink.  About ten minutes into my walk I spot Café Aurora and figure why the hell not.
Café Aurora is a quaint café located in Alexandria, VA. It was featured on WETA channel 26 as one of the best local restaurants for breakfast.  And it is certainly one of  Northern Virginia's quiet secrets for good authentic Eritrean cuisine.

first post

I really don't know what to write!  I guess that's the beauty about blogging.  Where do I start?  Okay I love food and I'm really twisted about it.  I have no problem waking up in the middle of the night and going out to get something to eat or taking out the pots and pans to throw something together quickly.  I enjoy food that's quick, delicious, and gives every taste bud in my mouth an orgasm; and if a good beer is thrown in or a glass of wine I'm in heaven.  This blog is really a combination of eating and drinking and my experiences with food.

I'm not great at recipe writing but I will take some pretty pictures and try to provide a recipe if I cook something, but don't hold me to it okay!  I said I will try.  Food for me is an experience and should never be complicated nor complex.   I go against the grain when it comes to eating, sort of like a mix and matcher. I will have liver pate with my Wild Dog beer and will enjoy a nice glass of wine with a hamburger.  I enjoy going against the grain with food.  But okay enough of this writing. On to the experience.

Oh p.s. I will let you know that this isn't the run of the average normal food blog. There may be some pictures of some lewd food acts and I do curse.  Just a heads up...
