Hamalatisha?
My sweet tooth was giving me the blues. I headed to the local Mediterranean bakery for a much needed treat. Familiar with the baklava, tiramisu, and chocolate covered every things I wanted something homier. I opted for a pastry called hamaistish or hamalitisha. Please forgive me for massacring the name; and if anyone knows the proper spelling feel free to correct me.
After perving these triangle fruit filled treats I settled on the apricot filing (they also come in poppy seed and strawberry). I asked for the name three times and tried to the read the baker’s lips. After he side-eyed me a few and shoved my pastries toward me, I knew I needed to get my purchase and get the hell out.
They were pretty good. Nothing fancy with a whole lot of fan fare. Just a buttery light pastry filled with apricot filling with a hint of lemon. Just your standard Mediterranean pasty. They aren’t on the top of my list of must have delights, but they aren’t on the bottom either.
